The new Xbar for Saleslogix is a great enhancement that brings a new level of integration between Saleslogix and Outlook. One particular time saver is the ability to go straight to a contact from xbar by clicking the icon. This will open the Saleslogix web client and go directly to the contact from xbar. This works great if you are using the Saleslogix web client interface but what if you are using the Saleslogix windows client?
Luckily there is a work around to allow the same ability to click through to a contact from the xbar and have the results come up in the Saleslogix windows client!
The Saleslogix windows client contains a ‘URL Link’ feature that will open the Saleslogix windows client to a specific record from a hyperlink formatted like ‘SLX:contact/CXXXX0000001’ (You can try this yourself by entering this in a browser address bar and substituting a valid contactid value from your database). To leverage this feature for the xbar we can intercept the request to open the contact in the web client and replace it with a URL link that opens the record in the windows client.
This is accomplished by creating a new virtual directory in the Saleslogix web site that will receive the requests, transform them to the correct URL link format, and redirect to the Saleslogix windows client. The configuration in the xbar is accomplished by simply modifying the Saleslogix client URL to our new virtual directory as shown here:
Once this is setup you will see that clicking the link to open the contact in Saleslogix will now open in the Saleslogix windows client instead of the web client interface!
If you would like to implement this functionality for your Saleslogix installation please email us and we will forward you the implementation steps and global.asax handler file that does the work.
